C.H.U.D. (1984)
C.H.U.D.
(1984) is an 80s movie about hobos in New York that live underground and are
being attacked by/turned into radioactive monsters. The movie is a cult classic and an early film for John
Heard ( the dad from Home Alone, Cutter’s Way [1981]) and Daniel Stern (the
tall crook from home alone and the adult voice of kevin from the Wonder Years).
It also features a cameo from a very young John Goodman. The movie's
strongpoints are it's writing acting and sets, the monsters are ok looking but
only ok, it has some decent special effects though and flamethrowers lol. It also features such great quotable lines as:
“You’re a madman! Do you want to blow up the whole city?” “Oh no not the whole
city just Soho,” and “ Listen to you? Are you kidding? Your guy’s got a camera,
my guy’s got a flamethrower.” The film
does have a decent cult following though and it has a sequel. I give it
a 3.5-4/5 The movie is available on instant streaming through Netflix.Trailer below:
